Course Breakdown:

Part 1

In this webinar Dafna Lender draws on her own experiences of working in social care to reflect on the importance of attachment theory. Attachment theory states that to develop a strong attachment with a caregiver, a caregiver must respond to and regulate their infant’s needs. In return an infant will develop a trust in their caregiver that they will be kept safe. However, many children are unable to form a secure attachment which reflects in their behavior. In this webinar you will learn how attachment can be assessed through a physiological lens using polyvagal theory. You will see how polyvagal theory and theraplay fit together and you will learn about somatic experiencing.

However, you can’t learn polyvagal theory without experiencing it for yourself therefore this webinar invites you to engage in experiential activities (so get your pencil and paper ready!). As play is the most important exercise in polyvagal theory you will also be encouraged to play. You will see video recordings and live demos from the webinar.

Part 2

In part 2 you will be taught physiological techniques to take back into your own practice. You will start by being guided in a physical check-in to tune into your own inner landscape. This is a technique that you will be able to take back to the parent/caregivers that you work with to achieve a ‘glimmer’. You will also understand the importance of helping your clients to feel self-compassion as a parent.

The main reason for stress is overload in the nervous system. This causes the body to go into fight or flight mode which can present in caregivers as a loss of temper or in children as a tantrum. When a parent is stressed it affects their child more than anything else. This webinar will teach you how to be a a transmitter of safety to a caregiver and how to speak to them on a physiological level.
