This course offers in-depth training in the application of EMDR to the treatment of complex trauma, providing participants with theoretical and practical tools to address the most difficult clinical challenges. Through a structured step-by-step approach, therapists will learn how to use the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) Model to guide safe and effective interventions.
How do I access the On-Demand Course?
EMDR offers a journey of healing and hope for those who experience multiple traumatic events. Complex presentations of trauma, however, can cause several challenges for EMDR therapists. Phase-oriented treatment serves as an excellent guide to structure the work with clients suffering from complex trauma related disorders; therefore, understanding how the AIP Model can inform therapeutic interventions is extremely useful for clinical practice. This module will provide participants with an in-depth overview not only of the structure and process of EMDR therapy but also – and most importantly – of its application to the treatment of complex trauma cases, thus underlining the key aspects that EMDR can bring to the healing of severe trauma. During this module, participants will be introduced to the basic concepts and assumptions of the EMDR Standard Protocol and its application to complex trauma via PowerPoint lecture, and then shown the process through clinical vignettes, aimed at helping clinicians to learn how to identify individual indicators of readiness, as well as blocks. This will allow therapists to understand how to implement the work with traumatic memories safely, by using a progressive approach, from the very early stages of therapy. The therapeutic pathway starting with stabilization and eventually leading to reprocessing will also be explored in detail. Note: Even though this module is open to therapists with any kinds of professional background, to optimally benefit from this webinar, participants are encouraged to acquire at least a basic knowledge of the EMDR key concepts (e.g. from reading, prior workshops and/or personal experience). Familiarity with EMDR basic concepts is highly recommended but it is NOT a compulsory pre-requisite to attend this module.
Dolores Mosquera is a psychologist specializing in personality disorders, complex trauma disorders and dissociation. She has published many books, book chapters and articles on trauma-related disorders. Dolores received the David Servan-Schreiber award for outstanding contributions to the EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) field in 2017, was made Fellow of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation in 2018, for her contributions to the trauma and dissociation field, and received the MAM10 Prix David Servan-Schreiber award in 2021 to a foreign researcher who has made a notable international contribution, having advanced research in the field of EMDR.
