Congratulation if you passed the first level of the Gottman Method!

Join William Bumberry, an esteemed leader and educator in Gottman’s Method, for Level Two.

Level Two and Three certifications are the ultimate steps towards mastering this renowned method, equipping you with the expertise needed to excel in your therapy practice.

It is a great achievement to have completed Level One! Now you can step up to level two – which will be live from the 10th to the 13th of October 2024 – to enrich and expand your knowledge.

Let’s recap Level One!

Let’s briefly recap what William Bumberry covered in the three-day Level one webinar.

The Gottman method is specialized to treat couples. Central to the Gottman method is the concept of the “Sound Relationship House,” emphasizing the cultivation of a positive environment based on trust and commitment.
Effective communication serves as the bedrock of healthy relationships, with negative cycles often perpetuating until intervention breaks the pattern. In order to emphasize positivity, therapists encourage mutual support, compliments, demonstrations of love, and expressions of appreciation to fortify the relationship.

Given that therapists play an important role in exploring positivity, they help couples in nurturing friendship, promoting collaboration, and facilitating the realization of shared dreams and meaning within the partnership. Essential to their practice is creating a safe, supportive environment where both partners feel understood and cared for.

Key interventions within the Gottman Method include building rapport, addressing destructive behaviors known as the “Four Horsemen,” by exploring:
– aspirations amidst conflict,
– enhancing social skills,
– navigating the aftermath of disagreements constructively.

Promoting positivity involves a structured approach, including the development of love maps, stress-reduction techniques, establishment of rituals of connection, and the co-creation of shared meaning. Sue Johnson’s emphasis on emotions underscores their fundamental role, guiding therapists to help couples recognize and navigate their emotional landscape, aligning cognition with affect.
Recognizing the uniqueness of each couple’s emotional dynamics, therapists’ endeavor to decode their individual “programming” and tailor interventions, accordingly, fostering deeper understanding and emotional alignment within the relationship.

The Second Level

While Level One Training allows participants to learn the basic elements of the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy, Level Two Training offers participants the opportunity to further expand their assessment strategies and therapeutic intervention techniques.

This four-day online webinar is the next step in obtaining certification and recognition as a Certified Gottman Therapist.

During the Level Two workshop, participants will review the assessment techniques, taught in Level One, of different couple profiles:
– Friendship, conflict, and shared meaning.
– Acquire new tools to implement therapeutic interventions that can act as an antidote against the “Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse” and calm physiological overactivation.
– Learn how to use six different modes of attack/defense system change within couple interactions and support partners in starting to talk about the conflicts they have been stuck on.
Fundamental aspects such as Relationship Theory, observation of couple dynamics, relationship assessment, treatment program, specific ways of using different interventions, and working with comorbidities will be covered.

During the event, original footage of real couples from Dr. Gottman’s famous “Love Lab” will be shown, as well as demonstration videos from John and Julie Gottman’s clinical practice, showing the use of multiple assessment techniques and numerous therapeutic interventions.

Through role plays, participants will be able to practice what they have learned, gaining the confidence to work with couples. This webinar will illustrate, in depth, the approach taken by the Gottman Method to treat the most complex cases, such as those marked by comorbidities, infidelity, addictions, domestic violence episodes or psychopathologies (e.g., PTSD).
